A walkthrough, in order, so none of it is a surprise.

You arrive and check in at the front desk. Give your name and the length you booked. If you got here early, there is somewhere to sit, and the bathroom is worth using now rather than at minute forty.

Your therapist comes out and introduces themselves. Before anything else there is a short conversation, usually two or three minutes, standing or sitting. They will ask what is bothering you, whether anything is off limits today, and how you feel about pressure. This is the moment to mention anything your provider said, anything that hurt after a previous massage, and any spot you would rather they left alone. It is a lot easier to say now than through a face cradle later.

Then to the room. It is quiet, dim, and warmer than the hallway. The therapist explains how they want you positioned, tells you which layers to remove, and steps out while you get under the sheet. They knock before coming back in.

The session starts slowly on purpose. Hands land, the first pass is light, and the pressure builds only as far as you want it to. Most therapists check in early with some version of asking whether that is enough, and the correct answer is whatever is true, including less.

Where the hour goes depends on what you said at the start. Commonly it is the lower back and the band across the hips, then the shoulders and neck, then the legs and feet. If you asked for the whole session on one region, that is what happens instead.

You are allowed to talk and you are allowed to be silent. Neither one is a signal about how the session is going and no therapist here reads anything into it. You can also fall asleep. It happens constantly and nobody minds.

Near the end, the pace drops off and the last few minutes are lighter. The therapist tells you they are finished, steps out, and lets you get up in your own time.

Standing up takes a minute. Sit on the edge of the table first. Getting vertical too fast after an hour on your side is how people get lightheaded, pregnant or not. There is water at the desk.

Payment happens at the front. Card adds a $5 processing fee, cash does not. If you want to book the next one, that is the moment when the calendar is open in front of somebody. There is no package to decline and nobody will push a rebook.

Afterward, most people feel loose and a bit slow. Some feel a mild soreness the next day the way you might after any massage. If anything about how you feel concerns you at all, that is a call to your doctor or midwife, not to us. We know what happened in the room. They know your pregnancy.
